2 Things

I forgot two new important things that Lucy is doing!

First, she actually has enough hair to get messed up! Oh so slowly it is growing.

Second, she has surpassed Daddy in the brains department. It only took her 1 year! ;) Dave made beautiful gates for our living room doorways to keep Lucy in and Mae out. Well, last week she figured out how to open the gates. It was awesome to watch her figure it out. She pushed her piano over to one of the gates, climbed on top of the piano and played with the latch until she fugured it out. Then she got down, moved the piano out of the way, stood up and opened the gate, and went out. Fortunately the gates have locks and she hasn't figured that part out...yet. Here is a video of her doing it:

I have to run, I'm late for pottery!

Catching Up

I am overdue for a posting. I have been reading a lot lately so that is where my spare time has been going instead of blogging. (I've reading lots of light fiction, nothing noteworthy.)

I am trying to think of what to write about exactly. Lucy is doing so many new things everyday it is hard to single them out. Since I am with her all the time, I don't even notice some of the new things because she just slides them in. Dave will come home from work and ask "since when can Lucy do this?" I also forgot to tell him new developments sometimes. Yesterday Lucy decided that she could walk while holding one of my hands and a toy with her other hand, by the time Dave came home I had forgotten that that was a new skill because she had been doing it all day.

Anyway, she is definitely turning into a child and not a baby. She has been throwing temper tantrums and wanting to be very independent. Nobody ever believed me that Lucy cried and could be a bit of brat sometimes at home, but now they are seeing it. :) Most of our fighting is about her wanting to go go go. She wants to check everything out and get into everything. Going to the diner in the morning is becoming a bit of a struggle. We are usually there for an hour, well that is a long time for a little girl to sit, and since she doesn't walk yet I won't let her down because I don't want her crawling on their dirty floor (you just know that she would be picking up every bit of food she could find on the floor and eating it!). I'm not sure if we are going to be able to keep going everyday, and that would be very sad!

She is getting a lot closer to walking but surprisingly she isn't doing it yet. She started crawling at 6 months and three days after she learned to crawl she pulled herself up to standing for the first time. I thought I was in for trouble but she is seems pretty content with crawling. She has begun to realize that she can reach a lot more while standing, and that she can carry things better that way. Today she was crawling on her knees and then walking on all fours. Very funny to see the little Lucy butt up in the air! :)

I'm trying to think of what else she does now. She talks a lot! Most of what she says is not in any language I understand, but some of it is. She will repeat almost anything you say to her but she isn't using words to get what she wants. If she wants me to pick her up she will put her arms and whine and then once I pick her up she will say "up". She isn't getting that using words will help her get what she wants. I have tried for months and months to teach her some baby signs but the only one she does is "all done". I keep trying though.

Lucy has become a bit of a Daddy's girl lately. I must be really mean to her during the day because when Daddy comes she lights right up and wants to go to him. I can see already who will have to be the "bad guy" around here when it comes time for some sort of punishment. The worst punishment you could give Lucy would be to make her stay home with just me all day anyway (no diner, no office) so I've got it covered. :)

I can't think of anything else for now. Tomorrow I will try to get my pictures and videos updated. My book is calling me.

Percentiles

I just looked up where Lucy is on the growth chart. She is between the 25th and 50th for height, not bad considering what a shorty I am, and between the 5th and 10th for weight, also not bad. I wish had the problem of being skinny. :)

Growing Up, Literally

Lucy is growing! We went to her 12 month check-up today and she has actually put on weight and gotten taller. She weighed 18lbs 13oz, only 1lb 3oz to go in order to turn her car seat forward. She is 28 and 3/4 inches tall. I think Molly may soon out grow her but it is progress!

Other than that Lucy is healthy little girl. She had to get two vaccines today, one of which stung a lot they said and is likely to cause a fever. Worse than that happened though; Lucy had to get blood drawn! :( It was awful!!!!!! At one year they check for lead and anemia, so we had to go to the lab after the doctor's. Dave had to hold her down while they did it, it was terrible!!!!!! I was terrible, I hid in the other room while they did it so that I could swoop and be the good guy afterwards! :) When we got home I gave her some Motrin and an early lunch so we can take an early afternoon nap.

I think it is time for nap now. Goodnight!

Rocking Chair

Lucy has figured out how to rock herself in her chair, it is very cute! (Yes, she is reading a suduko puzzle book, I don't know why.)

Growing Up

I haven't had the time yet to give to Lucy's newest development, but I think I can write a bit now. Lucy is weaned!!!! She hasn't had milky (what we called breastfeeding) in 10 days! Last Thursday in the middle of the afternoon she was being a bit cranky and I realized she hadn't nursed all day so I asked her if she wanted to have milky. She turned her back on me and crawled away! I couldn't believe it; not that she turned her back on me and crawled away she does that all the time when I ask her to do something and she doesn't want to do. :) After that I didn't ask her and she hasn't asked me (she would ask by doing this certain whiny thing).

I nursed Lucy for 11 months, 3 weeks, and 5 days. It's kind of weird to be done with it. I am very proud that we nursed for that long, but more, I am very proud of how smoothly weaning went. My emotions are a bit mixed on how I feel though really. Mostly I am glad to be done, but a part of me is sad too. Lucy doesn't physically need me anymore. After trying for so long to conceive her and all of the physical hardships that went with that, and then carrying her for nine months, going through 23 (LONG) hours of labor, and then nursing her for a year, I am really relieved to have my body back. But, she doesn't need me anymore, she is growing up and making her first steps toward independence already. But, back on the plus side, I can celebrate, and console myself, with some wine! :)

Now if I could just get Molly to teach Lucy how to sleep I would have it made!

Bad Parenting

I am a bad parent. :( Yesterday afternoon I was on the computer when I noticed that Lucy was playing awfully quietly. So, I turned around and she was eating dirt out of a potted plant! Ahh!!! We went and rinsed off and had to change our shirts because we got so wet getting clean. I am a bad parent. ;)

In other news, this morning Lucy said "Mae Dog" on her own, unprompted. Every morning when we come downstairs we say good morning to Mae, but this morning Dave had let Mae out and she was still outside. Lucy was saying "blah blah blah" in a high pitched voice and then I heard her say "Mae Dog". I realized that she was doing what I do every morning; baby-talking in a high pitched voice to the dog! Isn't she the best! She is so funny, the things she does now. :) She copies us all the time. I guess we better start watching what we say!

The Party

The party was great! Lucy ate some pizza, played in the frosting on her cake, had a bath, and opened lots of cool presents. She also got to play with her friend Haley, and crawl around to talk with all of the guests.

Dave and I taught Lucy to put up her finger and say one. Here is a video that she kind of does it in (plus you can hear my super sexy deep voice from my cold):

This is Lucy starting her cake. There are more videos of her eating her cake on My Videos. I will update MY Pictures too, but here is one of Lucy after her cake:

She went straight into the tub after this photo!

The party was great, and Lucy slept like a rock all night! Of course she ended up staying up past her bedtime after all of that sugar and excitement. Mommy and Daddy slept like rocks too after that party! I think Lucy had a really great first birthday!

My Little Lucy Baby

Tonight it was hard for me to put Lucy down to bed. I knew that that was the last time I was going to hold the baby Lucy, in the morning she will officially be a toddler. It's exciting, scary and a little bit sad. Of course if I remember what I was doing a year ago right now I am not so sad to be far away from that; I was on my 15th hour of labor with 8 hours left to go! :)

Good night Baby Lucy, hello Toddler Lucy!

PAR-TAY!!!!

I just finished cleaning and disinfecting the house, so bring on the party!!!! (I disinfected every door knob, light switch, and anything else frequently handled so as not to pass on the germs that so recently blessed this house.) Thank you to my Mom and Dad who came here today and helped me bake cupcakes and then kept Lucy occupied so I could clean!

PSC

Aunt Karen forwarded me this interesting article from her local paper. It's about the Paul Smith's woodsman's team which Dave and I are were both a part of in college. According to the article the team is going to be featured on a show on the History Channel. Pretty cool, thanks Aunt Karen!

Changes

Watching Lucy change from a baby into a toddler is so cool! I love watching her play and seeing all the new things she is figuring out. It is so much fun to see her turning into her own person. She has learned to do so many new things lately; she waves with her fingers now instead of her whole arm, she points at things, she brings me books and sits down to look at the pictures while I read them. She is also very moody and is learning how to throw tantrums, but really, overall, she is a lot of fun to be with. I am so glad I am home with her so I don't miss any of it! (As you can tell I have been doing lots of birthday reminiscing. :) )

Cute Stuff

I got this really cute video of Lucy and Mae last night. The video came out kind of dark but you can still see what's going on.

Now, for anyone who says they have never seen Lucy upset, here is the picture proof that she can throw a fit with the best of them:

The mess all around her is the stuff that she threw out of the cupboard behind her. Dave took a video of that, I'll put it on YouTube.

A Fun New Development

After reading Lucy her bedtime stories my voice is almost completely gone. Woohoo! This is the first time I have ever lost my voice, it should make the rest of the week lots of fun!

3 Days and Counting

Only 3 days left until Lucy's birthday! I can't believe it!!!! Lucy is recovered from her cold and I am starting to feel better, but Dave is still pretty sick. :( He is home from work right now napping with Lucy, which allowed me to run my errands without the child. It is so much easier to run errands without her because she has to go in and out of the carseat at every stop, neccessary for safety but what a pain!

I want to say an extra special huge thank you to Evie who took Lucy all day yesterday so I could get some sleep. I woke up at 2am and couldn't get back to sleep, so I thought I was going to go crazy when Evie came in to save the day. I took some cold medicine and put myself to bed, just what the doctor ordered, so thank you!

Recovery, sort of

Lucy is much better, Dave and I are much worse. For the past 2 days we have both felt very yicky, to put it mildly. We have been doing shifts; taking turns sleeping and playing with Lucy. Luckily for us, all that sleep that she didn't get while she was sick is catching up with her and she has been going to bed early and taking good naps this weekend. We were supposed to get a bunch of projects done to get ready for the party, but we only managed to do one of them. Oh well. Hopefully I will feel better enough tomorrow to go get some of my shopping done. Then it is time to clean, clean, clean, which will be fun, fun, fun! :P I think I am going to go take some medicine and go to bed shortly.

Oh yeah, Lucy has a rash now. I don' know what is up with that. She hasn't eaten anything new that I think of except a little bit of ketchup with dinner tonight. I don't think that is it though because she didn't have much of it and I think it is too soon for a reaction. If she still has the rash tomorrow it is back to the doctor's office for us. (We finally got her to eat her chicken by dipping it in ketchup! Usually she just throws it on the floor for the dog, which has made the two of them best friends but I was worried that Lucy wasn't getting enough protein.)
