Ickiness

We are all under the weather. I haven't felt like writing on the blog but I thought I should at least let you know what we are up to. Lucy has had a cold, and she seems to be getting over it already, but of course I am just starting to feel icky. Freddy is just not quite himself. I took him to the doctor yesterday and they said he has a blocked tear duct. I have to put antibiotic anointment in his eye three times a day for the next 5 days. :( So today we are doing nothing. I am practicing some bad parenting right now, I have Lucy parked in front of the TV watching Winnie the Pooh. I am going to go relax while she is occupied.

One More Picture

I just took this one. It is entitled "The Ways I Torture My Children." Unfortunately it is blurry, but it is still a great picture. Look at his chubby cheeks!

Videos

Here are the videos and pictures I promised.

This is the funniest video! Lucy makes up all kinds of games now. She is either cracking me up or making me crazy these days. Notice Freddy is up on his side. He's so close to rolling over! (this was from yesterday evening.)

This was taken on Mother's Day at Aunt Louise's house. We were going to go for a walk in the woods behind the house and Lucy was concerned that someone was missing. (She is saying "where's Weezie?" and she is making her 'say cheese' face.) I would love to turn part of our corn field into woods like Aunt Louise and Uncle Richard have at their house.

This was taken last Monday at a park near my parents' house. She was very determined to do it herself.

Freddy is chillin' in Bobbob's chair.

Now for some pictures:

Lucy, Aunt Louise and Tante Annie (who is visiting from the Netherlands).

Lucy and Kim

Freddy had a bit of an issue and needed to take a bath in the kitchen sink. I hope Aunt Louise and Uncle Richard weren't horrified to find a naked little boy in their sink when they walked into the kitchen. :)

Our trip to my parents house was unplanned so we all went with them to their hair appointments. And we all ended up getting hair cuts. This was Lucy's first real hair cut and she was such a grown-up about it. (I am not counting the time Dave hacked off her bangs to keep them out of her eyes.)

I got my hair trimmed just a bit shorter.

Lucy seems a bit apprehensive at first.

She sat patiently and and watched everything in the mirror.

That is our hair dresser Debbie, she cut my hair from childhood through college and still cuts my parents hair. I think I may be driving the hour and a half so she can cut mine from now on too. I don't know why I ever stopped going to her she is the best! (I guess it was the hour and a half drive, but if Aunt Joyce drives 5 hours for her hair cuts I can do an hour and a half. :) )

The finished product, sort of. Debbie gave Lucy that hat that she crocheted and Lucy wouldn't sit still for a picture without the hat. She has official bangs now, that is about it.

I am trying to crochet that hat for Freddy. I don't know how to crochet very well I am realizing. :/ We'll see what happens.

Last but not least. Lucy was being awfully quiet the other afternoon so I went to check on her. This is what she was doing. She said "I am sitting with Mae." I said "ok" and enjoyed the quiet.

Lucy has been sleeping for about 2 1/2 hours now and I am a bit nervous about what that means the rest of my day will be like. Usually she takes a nap after lunch but she wasn't herself this morning so I made her lay down a little after 10. I thought she felt a little warm but she was freaking out so I didn't get to take her temperature. (I take it in the armpit if you were wondering if that was why she was freaking out.) I was going to run errands but I think we will skip them for today, we have been very very busy for the last couple of weeks. This weekend will be busy too, all fun stuff but tiring for little ones. Dave is going to try to take a day off this week so we can have some much needed family time.

Tonight we pick up our camper!

Quick Update

I haven't had a chance to upload pictures or videos yet but I have a ton. We have been here, there, and everywhere the last few weeks. I even made a spontaneous 3 day trip to Grandma and Bobbob's house. Today we are doing our walk for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Thank you everyone who donated, I raised more than twice my goal!

Here are updates on the kids, the dog, and our land.
Lucy: She wears underwear now! She has had very few accidents, and she even stays dry during naps and all night long. I still put a diaper on her at nap and night just in case but she has been dry every single night since we switched to day time underwear. (It has been 2 weeks.) Once we took the time to switch she just went with it. Yeah!!!! She is so 2 right now! She fluctuates between being kind and helpful, to whining (the most annoying sound on the planet), to yelling at me "I want do it myself!!!" I know, I know payback for when I was 2; it's just a phase I just have to find the patience to make it through.

Freddy: He can almost roll over! I am excited for this development even though I know I will wish he couldn't do it. I can still put him somewhere and he will be right there when I get back. :) He smiles, laughs and blows raspberries. Lucy says "Brother is talking to me!" He is sleeping in his crib some of the time. I am reading, for at least the third time, Dr. Weisbluth's sleep book for some tips on getting him to be a good sleeper. I really should buy this book, I keep taking it out of the library and keeping it past its due date. Freddy isn't that into snuggling, he grumbles if you try to snuggle him too much. He loves being talked to, watching his sister, and milkies (nursing).

Mae: She is on antibiotics and is healing well. They think she has either an allergy or a thyroid problem which makes her itchy. Then her scratched skin gets infected, and this time made her scratch and hurt her ear. She is fine now and back to her normal naughtiness. She ran away twice this week, dumb dog. I love her anyway and I am glad she is better.

Our land: We just had our purchase offer accepted to buy 9 of the acres next to our lot. We are doubling in size already. We will soon be the proud owners of another corn field! Dave has put in a driveway up the middle of our current piece, the new piece will stay corn field for awhile, and will eventually be more pasture for our animals. The driveway even has gravel on it, it really looks like a driveway now! I think this summer we will be hiring an architect so we can start on or house.

The last news I have: We are buying a camper. It is a little tiny pop-up that I found on Craig's List. We are going to pay them and pick it up tomorrow. I haven't seen it in person yet but Dave and Lucy have. I am really excited! We can go camping in comfort and we can park it up on our land!

Dave keeps yelling at me to get moving, so I better be done writing for now. I will go find some more coffee and then I should be able to get going.

Freddy's check-up

Freddy had his 2 month check-up this morning. He weighs 15lbs 5oz, which puts him in the 5oth percentile. His length is another story, he is 25 inches which puts him between the 90th and 95th percentile. Maybe one of my kids won't be a midget! :) He is healthy, happy and developing well.

CFF

Just to the right you will see that I added a box that will take you to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundations website. I have signed the kids and myself up for a fundraising walk to raise money for CFF. We will be a part of team Tess' Peeps. Susan's granddaughter, Tess, has this disease so we would like to help them raise money to find a cure for it. So if you are able please click on the link and donate some money. Thank you!

Busy busy

We have a lot going on around here. (So much that I started this entry yesterday and just got a chance to get back to it now.) The main thing happening is that Lucy is potty training!!!!!

She is doing great! We started Friday, she spent the whole day (except nap and bed time) in underwear and only had two accidents. However, on Saturday she refused to go anywhere near the potty and wore a diaper all day.

Saturday evening we went to a party for Granny's 60th anniversary of coming to America, so it was probably for the best that she (Lucy, not Granny :) ) wanted to wear a diaper. At the party though, she said "I want to go potty." Luckily Kim was right next to her and took her, because I was feeding Freddy (we could not survive without Kim!). Lucy went pee and poop in the potty for Kim!!!!!

Today and yesterday she has worn underwear all day and done great! She has only had three accidents total, two on Friday and one on Sunday morning. I even got brave and took her to the office and the Diner today. When we got home she told me she had to go potty and she did it! She pooped in the potty!! I think she was afraid to to do that which is why she freaked out on Saturday and wanted to wear a diaper. I am really pleased with how well it is going; I am so proud of her!

The other thing keeping us busy is Mae. she had to have surgery on her ear last Thursday.
She had an ear hematoma. She is fine now but has to be on (expensive!) antibiotics and wear this stupid cone! Lucy was afraid of Mae for the first two days. I had to put Mae in the back room and put a gate across the door so Lucy wouldn't be afraid to walk to the bathroom. I finally convinced her that Mae was just wearing a silly hat. :)

To back up a bit, our trip to Montreal was very nice. I saw none of the city, and barely left the Hotel room, but it was great to get out of town. Even nicer, I didn't have to cook or clean anything! :)
This was at our first rest stop (at the Grist Mill for all those who know Route 81N). It had started getting breezy so poor Freddy had to have his sister's pink sweater to keep him warm. She was running around and around and around to burn off energy before getting back in the car.

They both did really well being stuck in the car for a six hour drive. The only part that was horrible was the last 30 minutes or so of our ride home, they took turns crying.

We don't have cable at home, so the best part of any trip is watching TV. Unfortunately on this trip half of the channels were in French, including Cartoon Network, and I couldn't find Nickelodeon. :(

Playing with the remote was fun anyway.

You can't really see it but his shirt says Party Animal. Does it getting any cuter than that?

For entertainment one afternoon, I gave Lucy her very first pedicure. She loved it and was very proud to show off her toes. I was surprised that she sat still long enough for me to paint them and to let them dry.

The only exciting thing we did was go swimming in the Hotel pool. Lucy loved it!!! I can't wait to take her Oma and Grandpa's pool this summer.

Before we went to Montreal, we took the kids to Lollypop Farm (a nearby branch of the humane society). They were having Farm Days. It was beautiful out and Lucy had a lot of fun there. Her favorite part was petting the goats. I have video of it that I will try to get posted later. Here is a cute picture of her from that day:

The weather has been nice so I finally got to work in my garden. As you can see, I am growing a fine crop of dandelions. Lucy and Freddy are a big help with weeding. ;)

The best picture from Saturday night. It was a very nice party and both my kids behaved themselves.

Last but not least, here is Freddy enjoying the bouncy seat (I love that thing!):

To see a video of Lucy playing in the bouncy seat click here.

I hope that posting all of these videos and pictures makes up for my not writing anything more meaningful. I just don't have the brain power. Although, Saturday night Freddy slept all night! From 10pm until 5am!!!! Lucy didn't do that forever, I am still excited and surprised that she sleeps through the night. Last night was as great but it was his first night in his crib. He went from 10 until 1, and if I had given it a few more minutes before I went to get him he probably would have put himself back to sleep. Oh well, tonight is another night.
