Excuses, Excuses

I have lots of them, but the truth of the matter is I have just been lazy. I'm sorry!!!! It's been over a week, yikes! So what has happened? We camped in the rain, but I think I wrote about that, it was really hot out, the heat went away and it has rained almost everyday for at least a week, we've hung out in the backyard a lot, BobBob (my Dad) had back surgery in Syracuse so I spent a day there, the next day Lucy and I went to their house to help take care of him and we stayed overnight (he says he is feeling much better already), and now Uncle Jim Aunt Julie and Molly are here visiting. I think Lucy is getting another tooth so we haven't been sleeping very well. I finally paid my bills, just in time to avoid my credit card being late, whew! (By updating you I got to say all of my excuses ;) ) Oh yeah, and now Kim is gone away on vacation, wah! (Kim, I hope you didn't float away when the river crested in St. Louis today! I hope you are having fun!)

I updated my YouTube videos and I tried to do my pictures too but something seems to be wrong with Shutterfly (I think they are updating and making changes). Hopefully tomorrow it will work and you can see the new pics.

What is new with Lucy: yesterday she told me she was thirsty(!). We read A LOT, we have been reading this book about colors and I think she might know what blue is, but she might think everything is blue, I'm not sure :). We have been working on naming body parts and she knows where her butt is :) plus if you ask her where her belly is she will up her shirt and show it to you! (She is so dang cute!!!!) Lucy began her modeling career on Saturday, Little D came and took some pictures of her for the company website, they are adorable, L.D. did a great job! (He gave me some prints but maybe he will email them to me so I can post them.) Lucy is back to sleeping with us for half of the night which was okay at first but the last few nights she has really turned in to a bed hog! I don't know how such a little girl can take up so much space but I almost fell out of bed last night.

In general Lucy is just being adorable and getting into everything (today she figured out how to lift the lid on the toilet seat and yesterday she found out how to climb up on the couch by herself).

I can't think of anything else that has happened. I will try not to let so long go by between posts again. Also, I'm sorry for the excessive use of exclamation points in this post!

Quick update

Our camping trip was fun but very wet. It rained most of the time, we did manage to have a campfire both nights. On Friday, it was nice when we got there but then it started raining. All was good until. we realized a river was running under our tent just where we put the sleeping bags, so off to the laundromat we went. We also had some raccoon encounters, they got some of our food before we smartened up and got our stuff secured. You would think Dave and I would know better than to leave our food out, Duh! Anyway we had a good time.

Lucy had her 15month appointment yesterday. She weighs exactly 20lbs and is 29.5 inches tall, that is 3/4 inch gain. She is sticking with the 25th percentile curve so the doctor was happy with her growth. I asked about how much she eats and they said to keep feeding her whenever she wants. (She has been eating so often lately that I was starting to worry. She carries around a snack cup like other kids carry around security blankets.)

P.S. Feel better soon Ganny!!! xoxoxo

Going Camping

Dave's Father's Day choice is to go camping for the weekend so we are off to Letchworth Sate Park tomorrow. We took Lucy camping a couple of times last summer (the 1st time she was barely 3 months old, yikes!), but she couldn't crawl at that point. I am excited but nervous about taking a walking, exploring, bad sleeping toddler camping. (Last year when she wouldn't sleep I could just nurse her to keep her quiet.) Wish us luck!

p.s. Good luck in your race (a half marathon!) Kasey and Dave!

Backyard Fun

It has been ridiculously hot here for the last four days. It stormed a bunch today and cooled off, but it has been in the 90s since Friday. We have been spending lots of time in the backyard hanging out trying to catch a breeze and stay cool.

Lucy loved the sprinkler! I was surprised because when I worked at the daycare none of the kids liked playing in the sprinkler. Notice the super poofy diaper, I made sure to buy more swimmy dipes today.

I think everyone knows that I have been searching for a slide for our yard (they are too expensive for me to buy new so I have been searching yard sales, with no luck). Well here is a video demonstrating our need for a slide:

I call this video "Make Your Own Fun". I am very proud of her imagination and improvisational skills! Luckily for us Lucy has so many people her love her so much. On Sunday we received this gift:

Yeah!!!!!!!! We got a slide!!!! THANK YOU AUNT LINDA AND BIG D!!!!!!!! Lucy figured out what to do with it right away. I was a little scared she would fall but she didn't and she has been happily sliding ever since.

This past weekend we also went to the Relay for Life cancer walk, had dinner at Oma and Grandpa's (and went in their hot tub which was turned down to 88, absolutely perfect on a hot day), and went to German Fest (Lucy ate her first bratwurst and liked it. How proud are you Bob Bob?). Pictures and Videos have been updated. The video named Sliding Video #2 is pretty funny, make sure you turn up your volume when you watch it so you can hear Lucy's sound effects.

A Couple of Videos

I updated all of the videos that I took over the weekend. Kim has a few more that I will try to get posted tomorrow. Here is a sample, see them all at My Videos.

Dave and I worry that Lucy might be a little obsessive compulsive or she is just a toddler (we all know toddlers are completely insane). On Saturday Lucy "helped" Aunt Julie by picking up all of Molly's clothes, even the ones that were still neatly folded up in Molly's diaper bag.

Lucy was nothing but helpful this past weekend. In this next video she reads a book to Molly. Of course she ripped the book out of Molly's hands, stared at it for a minute then shoved it in Molly's face so Molly could see it too. Like I said, very helpful. :)

In other news, my yard has become quiet the wildlife sanctuary! My new butterfly garden has attracted one butterfly so far! I am sure that one was a scout sent by the other butterflies to see if everything is blooming yet. Really though, I have seen some honey bees (so I am doing great for the environment right?), the one butterfly, lots of little brown birds (sparrows maybe?), some goldfinches, chickadees, a cardinal, two blue jays, a bird that is black and gray with a long skinny beak, a bunch of deer (just outside of my fence), and tonight I saw a family of raccoons (which Mae had treed, of course). Oh and Slutty Cat has been hanging around a bunch, probably trying to catch my new bird friends. (She is named Slutty Cat because every year she gives birth to a litter in or near my yard.)

Speaking of my yard, i think I have planted pretty much everything I am going to plant this summer. Last week I went over to Aunt Louise's house and she gave me a ton of plants, almost all of which are still alive! :) I am thinking about throwing a garden party sometime, stay tuned for details.

The Cow Girl Baby

The picture of Lucy in the cow girl hat last year was on Kim's work computer.

Another First

Tonight Lucy walked into the kitchen, opened a drawer (one I didn't know she was tall enough to open), and pulled out the package of crackers she wanted. She then brought the package to me and said "eat". Any illusions I was clinging to about her not being a full blown toddler yet got shot right out the window. :)

Here the promised pictures from this weekend. There are more on My Pictures.

Dave thought this was super cute because her hair was flying backwards in the wind.

"If I strangle Molly now I won't ever have to share cookies with her, hehehe!"
Lucy was hugging and kissing Molly tons this weekend, they are very cute together and are bound to only get cuter!

This picture is the result of the red eye reduction flash on my camera blinding Molly, but the result is so cute!

This is Lucy's new treasure box that Aunt Julie and Uncle Jim brought her. They said they got the idea from a Montessori book. Basically kids like to play with real things and they like to make choices for themselves, also it good to give kids play things that stimulate all five of their senses. In the box there are all kinds of things to touch, smell, see, hear and to pretend with. It is really cool and has already come in handy for keeping Lucy occupied while I cooked dinner last night. Thanks Aunt Julie and Uncle Jim!

Is Lucy the coolest kid ever or what!?! I have a picture of Lucy wearing this same hat last summer but I couldn't find it anywhere! :( It is probably at Shutterfly (My Pictures) if anyone cares to look for it. Anyway, Lucy is so cool! She and I had a great day hanging out together! We did some laundry and cleaned a little but mostly we just played. I love her so much! :)
