We had a very busy weekend! Friday night Lucy played with Oma and Grandpa while Mommy and Daddy went in the hot tub. Woohoo, hot tub! (I've never been in in the winter before, it was fun.) On Saturday Daddy's friend from high school, Mike, came over. Everybody knows how much Lucy likes to meet new people so that was fun. Mike lives in Boston, and was home for a visit. We hadn't seen him since he moved out there which I could've sworn was maybe 2 years ago. Turns out it was about four years ago! Time flies, and the older you get the faster it goes!
Anyway the big doings of the weekend happened on Sunday. Lucy took her first trip to the zoo! It was so much fun!!!! I wasn't sure if she would be into it but she was. For the first time she pointed to get us to look at something! It was the orangutans that she wanted me to look at, they were climbing all over the front of their cage and hanging upside down. She looked at the animals, made monkey noises and climbed around some. The thing to add pictures doesn't seem to be working right now so I will try to post a picture later.
Anyway, it was a really good time! After the zoo we went out to lunch at Applebees. We actually order off of menus for her now! (That's exciting to me because I don't have to plan it all out before we leave and carry around jars of food. It's almost as good as back in the days of exclusive breastfeeding. No pre-planning and nothing extra to cart around!) Then we went to Toys-r-Us, which is a zoo of its own kind. We went to try to decide what to get Lucy for her birthday. Dave wants to get something for outside. I think we have decided on a sandbox and/or a water table. Since these are outside things and we have like three more months until nice weather, we will probably buy it later on. It's not like Lucy will know the difference at this age and yet I feel like a jerk if I don't have something for her on her birthday. Maybe I'll buy her a new book or a package of onesies, not very fun but she doesn't need anything. We have toys from Christmas that we haven't gotten out yet. (Hint hint! If you are coming to her party you don't need to bring anything! I know that this hint falls on deaf ears but anyway, don't feel like you need to go out and find something.)
So, speaking of her party. Anyone who will be around town and doesn't have other plans on Saturday, March 8th at 3:00pm is invited to our house for Lucy's 1st Birthday Party. YEAH!!!! Please spread the word around to anyone that you know who might be interested in coming but doesn't read this blog. It is going to be a St. Patrick's Day theme, and we will be having pizza, snacks and cake. I don't need any firm RSVPs, but I would like to have a general idea of how many people are coming. So , if you are definitely coming please let me know how many of you there will be. Thank you!
To end our weekend (now that I am stay-at-home mom I count Monday as part of the weekend because we often need it as our recovery day after a busy Saturday and Sunday) my parents came to visit today. We haven't seen them in a while so Lucy was really happy to have them come over to play! They even played with her while I went grocery shopping, by myself! I can't remember the last time I did that. We had a nice visit even though Lucy was a bit of grump. She isn't feeling well, and she actually has a fever. She has had a cold before, and her temps been a little bit raised due to teething or getting vaccinations, but she has never had a real fever before. After checking Dr. Spock (my most trusted parenting book) I think she is in for worse tomorrow. Dr. Spock said that a fever often precedes a bad cold, infection or flu because it is your body trying to fight the germs. :( Hopefully her fever wins and she is better tomorrow, keep your fingers crossed!
