Today

Today is a sad day. We had to have our dog, Mae, put down. Dave took her in to have her leg x-rayed because they thought she tore a ligament in her knee. When they called him they said she has bone cancer. It was progressing quickly, in two weeks she had gone from limping to not walking on her leg at all. It was so hard to decide what to do, we hadn't said goodbye to her because we thought she was coming home this afternoon.

This all happened while Lucy was at school. I pulled it together and picked her up. I told her as soon as we got home that Mae died, and that when she was at the vet they found out that she was very sick on the inside. Lucy and I both cried very very hard. Freddy was the best brother in the whole world! He patted Lucy's back and he went and got her a blanket, then he went back to eating his lunch. I think to help Lucy with the permanence I am going to have her help me pick up all of Mae's things. Although, she does have a pretty good understanding of what dead means since we dealt with Franny dying last summer.

Dave is going to bury Mae next to Franny up at the farm. I guess we have our own pet cemetery there now. In the spring we will have to do a little landscaping and make it a nice spot. Judging by how quickly we have accumulated animals, I'm going to guess we will have lots more pets in our lives.

The other thing I can think to say is that Mae was 9 years old. We adopted her a couple of weeks after our wedding. We will all miss her.

Freddy LOVES to take showers! He would dance and play in there all day. He stands under the water and tilts his head up so the water is pouring all over his face. I can't let him take a shower right before bed anymore because he gets so wound up playing in the water. He is going to love the sprinkler and pool this summer!

Not to be outdone by his sister, Freddy colored in a snowman. He told me what he was drawing and I went back and labeled it so everyone could fully enjoy his picture. I think my favorite part is the bubble bath! :)

It's Official

In July our family will have one more member. :)

We all went to the midwife's office today and finally got to hear the baby's heartbeat. I am feeling excited now! I've been feeling pretty anxious about having a third child, but hearing the heartbeat today did it. :)

I got to schedule my ultrasound, which is a very exciting appointment! In six weeks we will know what kind we are getting. Lucy wants a sister and Freddy keeps changing his mind. I think he wants to stay the baby. Lucy thought we had to trade Freddy in, and then a couple nights ago she told Dave that we have too many more boys we will have to give some of them away. :D

In other news, both kids are sick again. :( Lucy took her very first sick day from school today, and yesterday she wanted to stay home from dance. She is just not herself and she has a low grade fever. Freddy is sniffly and coughing, again, he is already on antibiotics for an ear infection. We are learning a lot about sharing from preschool. :/

We have a quiet weekend planned so that we can rest up. This third time around I am rather tired. :)
